Juxtapositions: Images from the Newseum Ted Polumbaum photo collection

Ted Polumbaum, who refused to cooperate with an inquisitorial congressional committee in the early 1950s and found himself blacklisted from newspaper reporting as a result, went on to a fulfilling and productive career as a photojournalist. Over nearly five decades as a Boston- based freelancer, he completed hundreds of assignments for LIFE, Look, and other picture magazines as well as many independent projects. Traveling across the country and the world, he photographed major events and many celebrities, but his true passion was depicting the dynamism and resilience of ordinary people. Polumbaum died at age 76 in 2001, and his archives reside with the Newseum in Washington DC.
